WEEK 10 CFB POWER RANKINGS

What’s up everyone! Chaos reigns in October for college football. It’s out of control with three more Top 10 teams down this past weekend (BYU, Ole Miss, Texas Tech), and we’re not out of this month just yet.

This past weekend was low key, but continuous shifts in the Top 25 led to mid-tier teams climbing up the boards in unexpected places that haven’t reached in a while or probably ever. The SEC continues to cannibalize itself out of the majority of teams vying for a CFP spot. That’s eventually opening the door to other teams in other conferences that are battling for it. However, the Big 12 hurt itself after two former undefeated teams went down on the road, leaving Utah as the remaining undefeated Big 12 team.

So much has happened this month, but I will say this one more time as we conclude this last week of October. This is the month of upsets. No one is safe. We already had back-to-back #1 teams go down, had at least one Top 10 teams fall, and ranked road teams are very vulnerable to losses against desperate teams trying to qualify for bowl season or more. This final week will tell who’s alive to battle in November and who’s buried under from even a conference title conversation. Enjoy this last week while it lasts. The last October college football weekend is on Halloween😈☠️👻

12) BOISE STATE (6-1) [G6]

Boise State struts their stuff in the New Pac-12. They wrecked Washington State on the road and never let up. Where will their formidable opponent come from on their remaining schedule? Wait until next month to find out🦫

11) TEXAS (5-2)

Looks like Texas found their way back into a CFP conversation, but nothing’s guaranteed yet. It looked like Texas finally had answers to some extent on their offense. But the offensive line struggled at times, and the defense allowed Trinidad Chambliss and Ole Miss back in the game. Either way, Texas was home and responded in a huge way to stay alive for a postseason.

10) ALABAMA (6-2)

Alabama battled Texas A&M in the first half before taking control in the second half, especially the fourth quarter. It wasn’t pretty but the offense got the job done with receiver Rico Scott leading the way while Ryan Coleman-Williams was out for the second straight game. A couple of SEC teams that suffered their own losses jettisoned Alabama back into CFP consideration while walking a thin line.

9) NOTRE DAME (6-1)

8) BYU (6-1)

BYU definitely came off an emotional game against Notre Dame facing a tough draw against UCF. It went back and forth in this gritty, yet electric game. BYU did everything to stay alive against UCF, but key mistakes and miscues cost them in overtime. A couple of questionable calls, but no excuse for the miscues. They must bounce back against Arizona State.

7) KENTUCKY (7-1)

The Wildcats had some issues with Vanderbilt in the first half, but they eventually took them down in the second half. This team continues to play gritty, hard-fought football to keep themselves alive. Not only are they in line for an SEC title bid, but probably even a CFP bid as the Cinderella.

6) UTAH (7-0)

Utah’s offense struggled while Houston went up 10-0, including eating into the first eight minutes of the third quarter. Then, Devon Dampier said, “hold my soda” (most of Rice-Eccles stadium doesn’t sell alcohol) and carried the offense to their first score of the night and eventually ran 21-3 in the second half to win. Dampier impacted the night and the team flattened Houston to stay undefeated.

5) GEORGIA (6-1)

4) UCLA (6-0)

It was a slow start for the Bruins, but they did fine after the 2nd quarter began. Ty Dieffenbach’s presence is felt on this offense that needed consistency, which led to four touchdowns against Michigan State. Running back Anthony Woods turned in another big day with 112 rushing yards with a touchdown alongside Wayne Knight and Jaivian Thomas getting a score too.

3) INDIANA (7-1)

It was ugly and gritty, but Indiana found a way past Michigan. Josh Hoover threw his first interception of the season, but he kept fighting and trusted his defense to take care of the rest. It’s been a long time since they’ve won at Ann Arbor, but it was well earned. Indiana came away at 2-1 against the Top 4 Big Ten defenses in that stretch. Woooo!!!

2) MIAMI (7-0)

Just when we were expecting maybe a sliver of a slip up against Pitt, Malachi Toney and Darian Mensah didn’t flinch. They and the defense crushed the Panthers without resistance. Now, they face Bill Belichick’s gritty UNC team at Chapel Hill.

1) OHIO STATE (6-1)

WHO IMPRESSED? 👏🏾

APP STATE

Through resiliency on their homefield, the Mountaineers mounted a comeback after being down 14-3 during the second quarter. This team felt slightly better than James Madison and battled the rest of the way to force OT. A walk off field goal after a JMU miss was enough to give them a big upset win and potential control of the Sun Belt East if they win the rest of the way. App State has now won 3 games in the last 4 meetings against JMU.

WHO DISAPPOINTED?🙅🏾‍♂️

BIG 12

Two of the three Big 12 teams in the Top 10 went down this past weekend. Texas Tech’s reeling a lot more than BYU, but both hurt their opportunity. Texas Tech is in the worse position with no more Top 10 matchups left on their schedule. They must win out with losses from teams above them in the rankings. BYU must bounce back and win out. If Utah’s undefeated prior to the Holy War, BYU has a chance to slingshot past them for a Big 12 title spot and CFP contention.

WHO I’M UNSURE OF? 🤔

SEC

Every team suffered a loss before November. Last time an undefeated SEC team made it to November was Georgia in 2023. Not only did every SEC team suffered a loss, but they also suffered multiple losses. The last few weeks will get very dicey with the SEC title door still wide-open!
