What’s up everyone? I was upset all of Saturday because my favorite team’s offense played so awful. However, I shook it off and realized that we had some weird, bizarre chaos in Week 2. I’m trying to put the pieces together on everything. Oregon and Oklahoma (my favorite team) lost to Oklahoma State and Michigan respectively. FAU upsets Navy while USF won a thriller against Army. UMass wins again! USC’s defense is back in question after allowing Lunch Winfield to stack up 30 points on them. Nevada (my alma mater) may have self-sabotaged themselves against Montana State due to questionable personnel changes ahead of that matchup. Texas pulls off an unbelievable 4th quarter comeback to give themselves some life for a CFP opportunity. So much happened that weekend that it was hard to keep everything together. It all unraveled after the 9am PT kickoff and kept unraveling. If that’s the case, just wait til we get to Week 3 matchups that includes LSU vs. Ole Miss. We’ll really see how it all unravels then.

12) JAMES MADISON [G6]

James Madison went to town on Wagner. They put up insanely, gaudy numbers that puts most other Group of 6 teams and some lowly Power 4 teams to shame. They scored 87 points to Wagner’s 3, including scoring three punt return touchdowns. Two years ago, they scored 70 points on North Carolina. Before that, they scored 63 on Norfolk State in James Madison annual season at the FBS level. Maybe two years later, they’ll score 100 points on a poor, vulnerable school??? Can we get a potential James Madison/Boise State G6 gauntlet matchup soon? Please!!!???

11) MISSOURI

The matchup was even until the fourth quarter. All it took was Kansas’s mistakes to give Missouri everything they needed to win the game. Kansas quarterback Isaiah Marshall had two costly interceptions and a lost fumble that led to the Jayhawks’ downfall. Missouri’s defense did their job while Austin Simmons and Jamal Roberts handled their business on the offensive side.

10) TEXAS A&M

Texas A&M was in a dogfight with Arizona State for a while before the turnovers became State’s eventual undoing. Marcel Reed threw for three touchdowns while Reuben Owens scored the other one just to stay above during the game. A&M didn’t do all that great in yardage, but the defense did a great job with two defensive scores to escape the Sun Devils’ clutches.

9) BYU

Arizona was dueling it out with BYU for the first half and had a shot. But BYU eventually wore them down in the second half with Bear Bachmeier and LJ Martin working Arizona’s defense. Arizona’s undersized secondary was outmatched by some of the playmaking receivers and tight ends. BYU could have a solution at receiver before they dive deeper into Big 12 play.

8) LSU

LSU struggled mightily against a team like Louisiana Tech. It’s not like they weren’t producing out there, but Sam Leavitt’s first half three interceptions made the offense look so bad to where La Tech had a chance. They cleaned it up at halftime and ran it down their throats with a 35-7 run. Maybe they looked ahead to Ole Miss too early and that’s where the struggles started.

7) OLE MISS

The Rebels made easy work of Charlotte and Kewan Lacy was able to play that game. They didn’t have to do much and let their backups get some playing time. The team now prepares for a massive showdown with Lane Kiffin’s LSU team.

6) INDIANA

Indiana shutout Howard pretty easily. Josh Hoover threw for 4 touchdowns, but it’s interesting how he only threw 11 times for 6 completions, but he still turned in a good day. Lee Beebe Jr. and Turbo Richard accounted for 220 yards of the 296 total rushing yards. Charlie Becker caught 3 balls…for 3 touchdowns, Shazz Preston caught 1 ball for a touchdown, Grant Wilson caught a redzone ball for a touchdown, and Nick Marsh needed 2 catches for a touchdown. You can say this was a very efficient win lol

5) GEORGIA

Georgia minced meat Western Kentucky. Gunner Stockton finally ran the ball but just one time this time. He still turned in with 5 touchdowns. Defense forced 4 turnovers, but they allowed 20 points to Western Kentucky. Most came in the 4th quarter with backups, so that’s no big deal…except for Kirby Smart.

4) NOTRE DAME

The Irish avoid a two-week struggle for once under coach Marcus Freeman after shutting out Rice. Now, they have something to look forward to when they play interesting primetime matchup against Michigan State.

3) OHIO STATE

The Buckeyes had the Longhorns for three quarters. However, there were opportunities to recover a couple of more turnovers and potentially grab another interception. Instead, they gave Texas every opportunity to come back and pull off an unbelievable 4th quarter comeback victory. Jeremiah Smith had by far his best game against Texas after struggling the two previous meetings. It was all for not unfortunately as their kicker needed one make just to fend off Texas’s comeback. Now, the Buckeyes are left wondering about the collapse as they approach a tough schedule pretty soon.

2) TEXAS

Texas was down big for three quarters. They made mistakes, underwhelmed on play calls, and made questionable decisions that hurt them. Defense worked their asses off despite getting burned by Jeremiah Smith for the first time in 3 meetings. However, that massive 3rd down completion to Emaree Winston late in the 3rd quarter was the momentum needed to complete an unbelievable 4th quarter comeback. There are answers to be had for the first 3 quarters, but Texas will take the 4th quarter as a massive victory.

1) MIAMI

Not much to say as Miami put 77 on Florida A&M. It looks like it’s the Darian Mensah-Malachi Toney show and they could be a whale of entertainment. If they keep scoring in waves, especially against Wake Forest’s defense next week, they will be a problem across the ACC.

DREW MESTEMAKER

After one of his worst performances against Tulsa, he turned it around against a former #6 Oregon in a major way. He threw 317 passing yards for 2 touchdowns (and two interceptions) and ran for 109 yards for another touchdown. Along with his North Texas cohorts Caleb Hawkins and Wyatt Young, they took down the Ducks and knocked them out of the Top 10. Mestemaker proved he could still be one of the top quarterbacks drafted in the NFL someday.

THE 3 O’S: OKLAHOMA, OREGON, and OHIO STATE

Yep, I said it. The 3 Big O’s of college football had “O No” performances. Oklahoma’s offense struggled against Michigan’s strong defense. Oregon struggled to slow down Oklahoma State that suffered a big loss against rival, Tulsa. Ohio State led big against Texas for 3 quarters to only collapse big in the 4th quarter. While Ohio State’s still in the Top 10, Oklahoma and Oregon took a big fall and must have answers as they have bigger challenges ahead.

WHO I’M UNSURE OF? 🤔

USC

In Week 1, USC’s defense allowed 26 points to San Jose State. In Week 2, they shutout Fresno State. After this past weekend, Louisiana’s offense somehow got the better of USC’s defense. At one point, Louisiana quarterback Lunch Winfield was 100% on his early throws before he finished with 73% passing. Now, USC’s defense allowed 30-plus points to a non-Power 4 conference for the first time since the 2022 Cotton Bowl where they allowed 46 points to Tulane…and lost. Pay attention to USC’s defense moving forward because that could really affect Lincoln Riley’s career this season.
