What’s up everyone! Week 1 football was exciting, boring, and a bit bizarre. If anyone watched the Michigan/Western Michigan game, that one was the most bizarre. I understand the fallout after that game, but I don’t understand the situation of the extra second off of a review call. But that’s beside the point. Now, college football may have some farce and parody moving forward because it’s been a circus all offseason and fans on social media have so much reaction over it. We do have the NFL soon, so they can always veer towards that if they’re dissatisfied with it. I’m not and I’m going to ride the CFB merry-go-round all season long.

Anyway, welcome back to MY college football power rankings where I ranked college football teams my way. It’s only Week 2 so don’t overreact too much from it. We still have 3 months to ride this out before the heavy overreaction comes. Hope y’all have a great day and more posts coming soon!

12) JAMES MADISON [G6]

The Dukes won their first game in Billy Napier’s debut. They outplayed Liberty early and held on the for the win. It wasn’t great on offense, but plenty are being worked out with new players from recruiting and the portal before facing the teeth of the Sun Belt.

11) BYU

Bear Bachmeier and company took Utah Tech to the fridge and locked them away for good. Bear threw four 3 touchdowns while running for another. LJ Martin may have some company on the running back depth chart. Receivers were being worked out, but Legend Glasker and Kyler Kasper were the main targets that stood out. If they can work out that wrinkle, they have a complete offensive setup.

10) OLE MISS

The first half was a dud, but the second half was electric and dramatic with Ole Miss escaping off a Lucas Carneiro walk-off field goal after struggling with kicking that night. Three things that happened in that matchup: Kewan Lacy’s injured and unable to finish the game. He wasn’t healthy during the postseason either. Injuries poured out across Ole Miss’s roster and that could be a glaring sign. Ole Miss’s defense was exposed later on and fatigued during the game against Louisville. Those three things will be monitored during the season.

9) INDIANA

Just like last season in Week 1, the national champs were a bit slow despite a couple of quick scores. They eventually woke up in the second half and ran away from North Texas. Josh Hoover had a nice debut throwing for 4 touchdowns while Charlie Becker nabbed 2 of them and Turbo Richard ran for the other two touchdowns.

8) LSU

LSU didn’t just beat Clemson. They obliterated them from the jump and didn’t look back. Sam Leavitt and company completely trampled Clemson’s defense while LSU’s defense and the fans scared off Clemson’s new quarterbacks. It was one-sided from the jump, and we’re all interested in seeing how the Tigers’ next few games fare.

7) TEXAS

Arch Manning had a huge day with his receiver options while running back Hollywood Smothers made a nice debut alongside his transfer mate Raleek Brown. Pitt transfer linebacker Raheem Biles made his presence known on defense that included an interception. Texas hosts a huge game against Ohio State next week for a potential equalizer.

6) OKLAHOMA

Oklahoma decimated UTEP on all sides. John Mateer, Isaiah Sategna, Lloyd Avant, and this monstrous defense did their job to shut them out. Rush defense must be better after allowing some yards on the ground. The overcompensation in the backfield was a bit costly. Let’s see what the Michigan matchup at the Big House looks like after their miraculous (and suspecting) victory.

5) GEORGIA

Georgia clobbered Tennessee State without resistance, but there was one major difference in that game. Gunner Stockton didn’t run the ball at all for once and allowed Nate Frazier and company to carry the load. Does this change anything moving forward? Highly doubtful, but it’s nice that he breaks away from getting pummeled every week.

4) OREGON

Oregon struggled on execution and on defense in the first half. In the second half, they woke up and scored 27 points to Boise State’s 10 points. Dante Moore did look solid out there, and his passing consistency is key no matter the situation Oregon’s put in.

3) NOTRE DAME

The matchup with Wisconsin was close and physical in the first half. Then mistakes came about on Wisconsin, and Notre Dame eventually tore them apart in the second half. The run game dominated the night, and Notre Dame felt they maintained their offensive strength with two new running backs to utilize. They got half of the monkey off their back with a win in the first two weeks of the season. They shouldn’t have a problem clobbering Rice in the other half of the two games…right?

2) MIAMI

Malachi Toney and Darian Mensah dominated Stanford while connecting with each other. Mensah tallied 401 yards for 5 touchdowns while Malachi Toney tallied 12 receptions and 234 receiving yards for 3 touchdowns. If this keeps up, Miami’s offense is virtually unstoppable with plenty of options across the roster.

1) OHIO STATE

Ohio State scored 14 points four times against Ball State. You do the math and know that it was a blow out. Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith continue to be on the same page while the Jackson running backs (Ja’Kobi and Bo) both ran for 83 yards and 1 touchdown each. Bo having one more carry than Ja’Kobi was the only difference. Ohio State has a major matchup against Texas, so plenty of those options would be helpful for next week.

WHO IMPRESSED? 👏🏾

UMASS

Undoubtedly, the Minutemen played their best football ever and get their first win ever against an FBS school since joining the FBS. It took 14 years to turn into something, and it could happen if they net at least six wins. Quarterback Pop Watson III averaged 86% of his passes (19/22), which is the best passing percentage in a game by a UMass QB in program history. The team could go 3-0 if they don’t get complacent against the next 2 FCS teams.

CLEMSON

It’s highly doubtful Clemson’s a playoff team and a reach to be an ACC title contender after an embarrassing loss to LSU. It’s one game, but there are a lot of issues already starting with the quarterback and the offense as a whole. We’ll know next week if they do have an answer because they were completely outmatched.

WHO I’M UNSURE OF? 🤔

MICHIGAN

Michigan’s defense was the winner tonight. Even though Bryce Underwood threw that one touchdown that mattered so much, the offense was awful all night. They barely eclipsed 100 yards rushing against Western Michigan, but they didn’t get much going for 59 minutes of football until the miracle hail mary play. If they don’t have an answer for Oklahoma next week, they’re in for a rude awakening against the Sooners’ stout defense.
