It’s finally done and what a heck of a season for my Underrated Teams. They also finished their bowl season with a 9-5 record. Unfortunately, five of them had their games cancelled due to COVID, and two games were supposed to feature my underrated teams against each other. Rutgers was a surprise to be bowl-eligible after finishing 5-7, but one team cancelled and let them appear for the first time since 2014. I added a point for each team that had their game cancelled. Finally, congrats to Louisiana for a great season! They appeared in Week 4 and finished at the top with 18 points. After their first loss of the season to Texas, they dominated their schedule, including wins over Appalachian State twice (one in the Sun Belt championship), and a bowl win over Marshall to cap off their season with 13 straight wins.
Overall, I enjoyed the point system more than the season record. It fits well and gives every Underrated team (Power 5 and Non-Power 5) a fair chance. If you look below, four non-Power 5 teams finished there, but others popped in and out too. I’ll look into adjusting the rules for the 2022 season. Hope you all have a great week!
RECAP:
Iowa, Ole Miss, Fresno State, and Oklahoma were the only teams to stay in the Top 10 for the whole season.
Iowa held the top spot for 9 weeks
Oklahoma stayed in the Top 3 for 9 weeks while Fresno State was there for 7 weeks.
Western Michigan was in and out of the Top 10 three times.
Louisiana appeared in the Top 10 in week 4 and stayed there for the rest of the season during their winning streak.
Kentucky jumped from 8 to 4 in the final standings after I made the right pick in the bowl game against my other ranked Underrated Team Iowa.
