What’s up everyone! If there’s any debate on whether a 24-team playoff should exist or not, just accept it. Are y’all seeing what happened this past weekend? This is crazy, wild, bizarre, and unbelievable in all the weird places.
Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, and BYU were the showstoppers this past weekend. Ohio State silenced the Indiana crowd after a Big Ten equalizer. Miami tussled with Florida State through two overtimes!!! Meanwhile, Kentucky continues winning, making me the victim of another disappointing Sooner loss😭 UCLA’s the only undefeated team left in the Big Ten. Miami staves off Florida State to remain the only unbeaten ACC team. BYU, Texas Tech, and Utah are the only unbeatens in both conference and overall, together. James Madison is the standalone unbeaten Group of 6 team. Meanwhile, the SEC…has no more unbeatens after a chaotic first seven weeks of the season. Georgia, Alabama, and Texas all lost this past Saturday, opening the door for mid-tier SEC teams to take control of their SEC title destiny for the first time ever.
Did I mention this is October football? No one’s safe and it’ll continue that way. I’ll keep reminding y’all until we’re past October 31st, which is the last day of October college football. Try avoiding two more Saturdays of it and you’ll be aces. Until then, muahahahahahaha!!!!😈☠️
12) JAMES MADISON (7-0) [G6]

James Madison bested Georgia State by scoring 49 points on the former 3-1 overall team. The Dukes continue to show dominance in the Sun Belt even though they’re still not mentioned enough over Boise State just yet. They’ll need another Boise State loss to gain some traction in the Group of 6 standings.
11) UTAH (6-0)

Utah handled Colorado at first, but they almost gave the game away in the second half once Colorado gained ground in the third quarter. Unfortunately, a fourth quarter turnover cost Colorado. Utah escaped this one but now must wake up and smell the cowpie. They host Houston next in a clash of the Big 12 ranks.
10) TENNESSEE (6-1)

Tennessee’s run game was the key formula to defeating Alabama. Not many teams could outrush Alabama historically, but Tennessee succeeded behind DeSean Bishop’s 159 rushing yards with two touchdowns. Defense put the clamps on Keelon Russell and company with a turnover galore (2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries). Can’t say if the Volunteers are real, but their defense gives them a chance.
9) KENTUCKY (6-1)

While I’m literally depressed over Oklahoma’s continued offensive woes and miscues, Kentucky continues staying strong and winning in the end. The Wildcats may have struggled against OU’s defense, but they were the better team on all sides for four quarters despite the struggles. Kentucky could be a Cinderella story in Will Stein’s first year.
8) GEORGIA (6-1)

Georgia had a strong first quarter to only struggle and come up short in the end. Byrum Brown controlled the game and put the Dawgs in check. Georgia allowed 265 total yards of offense with two touchdowns to Brown. They had somewhat of a hard time against Russell last week, but not to this extent. Worst of all, Gunner Stockton had his worst performance. The turnovers that Georgia avoided last week all reared its ugly head this past game.
7) UCLA (6-0)

It’s potentially safe to say that the Bruins are real this season. When it looked like losing Nico Iamaleava might leave questions at the quarterback position, backup and new starter Ty Dieffenbach handled himself well. The run game finally struggled with any ball carrier, but that didn’t stop him from setting up run scores for UCLA. Defense continues playing strong by allowing one touchdown all evening to Wisconsin.
6) OLE MISS (5-1)

When it looked like a potential classic between two former Ole Miss teammates, Ole Miss wanted none of it and obliterated Missouri out of a potential playoff conversation. Not only did Trinidad Chambliss put up four total touchdowns, but Kewan Lacy ran all over Missouri’s run defense with no resistance alongside Makhi Frazier.
5) INDIANA (6-1)

Indiana had more than enough chances to come back and beat Ohio State, but the fumbles, the turnover on downs (including a Nick Marsh’s TD catch that was not), and self-inflicting mistakes cost them. The good thing is that Indiana’s fight with Ohio State wasn’t a disappointment. It proves they can compete with the best teams. The bad thing is that this isn’t the same team and could eventually leave them short of another National Championship.
4) NOTRE DAME (6-1)

Notre Dame was bested by BYU, but they didn’t lie down though. It took the second half to figure it out and get themselves back in. After a dramatic last possession drive that decided the game and a CFP spot, Notre Dame fell short. The no pass interference call is up for debate, but what cost the Irish was quarterback CJ Carr’s awful spike that resulted in a turnover right before halftime. The score might have been different, but it is what it is, and the Irish must shake this off.
3) MIAMI (6-0)

It’s unclear how Miami allowed Florida State to keep up with them, but maybe four bad possessions between the second and third quarter gave Florida State enough belief, motivation, and hope to cause a chaotic upset. After two overtimes, Miami escaped their heated rival to stay undefeated. Also, quarterback Darian Mensah is human! He finally threw his first interception of the season!
2) BYU (6-0)

Kudos to Bear Bachmeier and BYU. From start to finish, they were the better team. They outplayed Notre Dame’s offense despite a couple of miscues here and there. Bear was hitting on every possible receiver available while running amuck with his legs. He reminds me just a bit of Tim Tebow. If that’s what it takes for BYU to carry into the postseason, let the Bear go wild (within reason) in Provo. Off topic, I saw a couple of deer in person on BYU’s campus and no student or person freaked out. Is this normal???

1) OHIO STATE (6-1)

Ohio State learned from last season’s loss to Indiana and overcame every possible challenge and obstacle that Curt Cignetti and company threw at them. Julian Sayin went after a bevy of receivers to confuse Indiana’s coverage, and the run game was coming through successfully against Indiana’s run defense. Their defense definitely affected Josh Hoover and avoided a near disaster on a broken coverage when Nick Marsh caught the ball with a foot out of bounds in the endzone. Congrats to Ohio State, but now it’s unclear how long Julian Sayin will be out with an injury. That would be unfortunate…
WHO IMPRESSED? 👏🏾
AMARE THOMAS
The things he does on the field is absolutely phenomenal. We’ve seen what Jeremiah Smith his whole career has done but get a look at that kid. He’s experienced too and is doing lowkey things that needs more attention to the CFB world.
WHO DISAPPOINTED?🙅🏾♂️
THE SEC 🐘🐶🐂
Georgia, Alabama, and Texas all went down in the Top 10. How Georgia managed to stay in the Top 5 after a lackluster performance against Auburn makes absolutely no sense. Alabama was terrible against Tennessee, and it had to be one of their worst performances against them in some time. Texas got swept by Florida since joining the SEC. Most importantly, this is Florida’s 1st two wins ever against Texas. Talk about being the Gator bait after joining the SEC. After that weekend, there is officially no more undefeated SEC teams after the first seven weeks. Does that conference “still mean more” or does it just “mean more” to cannibalize each other again?
WHO I’M UNSURE OF? 🤔
MIAMI
Miami obliterated the majority of their competition until they crossed paths with Florida State. Then it turned into a surprising back-and-forth matchup with OVERTIME!!!??? Rivalry or not, Miami was supposed to be a bit more built to overwhelm a questionable Seminoles. However, these last two meetings were now decided by 8 points or less. The Canes escaped being victims of another major upset, but maybe it’s time to have some perspective moving forward.
