What’s up everyone? I had a disappointing Saturday of college football with both Oklahoma and my alma mater Nevada losing. Unfortunately, Oklahoma’s poor offensive performance ruined my entire day, and Nevada’s overtime loss put the nail in the coffin on my entire Saturday. However, I did watch some great and crazy football in between. Texas held off Tennessee while Wisconsin went on to upset Penn State. Ole Miss was the underdog, and boy they definitely played like one as Florida gator-chomped their way to victory. Oregon suffered a big loss from Dante Moore on a brutal hit, but they rallied around Dylan Raiola and won a big game in the Coliseum. Wake Forest also went into Louisville and outplayed the Cardinals to upset them. I also wanted to mention that UMass is 4-0 for the first time since 2007. I could go on and on about more things that took place, but I won’t waste your time with it.

The competition in college football is still very wide-open for anyone to win it all. As we enter October, remember that it’s the month of upsets, and it will linger anywhere across the nation for the next 5 weekends. If your favorite team is in a great spot now, check your schedule now because it could all change quickly in one weekend. For now, enjoy that September success while it lasts. ☠️😁🎃

12) JAMES MADISON [G6]

Until another Group of 6 team impresses me (maybe UMass), James Madison is the low-key standout. They do enter October with upcoming competitive Sun Belt matchups. Quarterback Cam Coleman put up his second straight double-digit touchdown passes with 4 coming against Old Dominion. Their next opponent is a pretty good Marshall team who won the last two meetings on James Madison’s field.

11) UTAH

Utah overcame Ames and still pulled off their first Big 12 win of the season. Devon Dampier and Wayshawn Parker carried this offense with a combined 195 rushing yards with Parker scoring twice. Dampier added 206 yards in the air for another two, which was enough to hold off the Cyclones.

10) LSU

How did Lane Kiffin and LSU respond after a loss to Ole Miss? They put up 35 points, chased Marcel Reed around about 100 hundred times, forced a couple of turnovers, and put up 500-plus total yards. Here’s the downside to that bounce back, Sam Leavitt’s health. He went out with an injury, and his backup Landyn Clark went 0-5 in passing. He may have ran in for two scores, but it doesn’t mean LSU’s all good without Leavitt.

9) OLE MISS

They were the expected underdog and lost big. Without Kewan Lacy against tough competition, the team put a lot more on Trinidad to win them the game. With an ongoing suspecting defense, no one could stop running backs Duke Clark or Jadan Baugh from running all over them for a combined 200-plus rushing yards. All of it eventually petered out along with Trinidad taking a big hit. He’s ok, but things get more complicated for them in October.

8) INDIANA

Indiana was under a lot of pressure against a hard-fought Northwestern team that put up big play after big play just to stay within striking distance. However, Indiana’s run game dominated whether it was by Lee Beebe or Turbo Richard (who eventually went out with an injury). Receiver Charlie Becker continues showing his elite status and potentially a first-round opportunity in the future. Coach Cigs understands that nothing comes easy and must fight for every win each week.

6) FLORIDA

The expected favorite Florida Gators put on a show against Trinidad Chambliss and Ole Miss after they came off a huge win against Lane Kiffin and LSU. Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark put on a nightmare performance against Ole Miss’s suspected defense and crushed them for 52 points. They have SEC title aspirations as they head into October undefeated.

5) NOTRE DAME

The Fighting Irish ran over another innocent bystander prior to October. They travel to Chapel Hill to see Bill Belichick and company. They might be tested against a gritty Tarheel defense.

4) GEORGIA

Georgia punched Oklahoma’s offense into dust. Georgia’s defense pretty much shot the confidence of John Mateer completely out of his system. Meanwhile, Gunner Stockton played his first game where he didn’t perform that well, but I guess he didn’t have to when his defense did the work for him. Stockton’s less than stellar performance against tougher matchups must be monitored.

3) OHIO STATE

Ohio State ran over Illinois with Jeremiah Smith pulling off his touchdown run after turning the Illinois defensive back around. Now, they head to one of the most difficult college stadiums in America, Kinnick Stadium.

2) MIAMI

Miami cruised past another easy schedule before clashing with a seemingly rejuvenated Clemson squad? Next week will tell us a lot more about both teams.

1) TEXAS

Arch Manning struggled, but the rest of the offense did their best to pick things up. However, their defense played exceptional to stop Tennessee’s offense that averaged 43.5 points per game in their last two games. They have a bye before facing Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

WHO IMPRESSED? 👏🏾

IOWA, WAKE FOREST, FLORIDA, AND WISCONSIN

Iowa closed out the same way Michigan did in Week 1 after being given another opportunity. Wake Forest competed and outplayed Louisville just enough to win their big road game. Florida was the expected favorite and sunk Trinidad and company in the swamp. Wisconsin competed and brought the Nittany Cyclones into reality of the Big Ten. All 4 enter October with more optimism with their competitive juices and spirit.

WHO DISAPPOINTED?🙅🏾‍♂️

OKLAHOMA

Pretty much the worst performance ever since Oklahoma joined the SEC. The last time they allowed 40 points in a loss was against Texas Tech 51-48 in an overtime thriller. Despite having some opportunities, John Mateer struggled, hesitated, and made mistakes. His confidence was shot and the rest of the room didn’t help his situation. I realized that Brent Venables’ Oklahoma struggled in even years for OU while doing well in odd years. Still, this sucks for me as a Sooner fan to endure all this again.

WHO I’M UNSURE OF? 🤔

PENN STATE

This is the Big Ten, but this puts a damper on Penn State’s Big Ten title and CFP opportunity. Wisconsin’s quarterback Colton Joseph made plenty of mistakes, but Penn State made their own share of mistakes that gave the Badgers plenty more opportunities. With a tough October schedule ahead, their path to the CFP got a lot more difficult.
