Week 2 was supposed to be a relaxing week for most. Unfortunately, upsets and ugliness took place. What we’re learning that there are no breaks in a weak weekend schedule unless you’re on a bye week and your team won prior to the bye. Also, Week 1 doesn’t explain everything about a team just yet. Late September or around October will tell who will make it through the season and make a playoff push. Hope you all have a great day! Boomer Sooner!!!🐴🐴
12) NOTRE DAME

BYE WEEK
11) IOWA STATE

The Cy-Hawk matchup was the only thing that mattered to Iowa State. They won a close one and now look primed for a big year. Rocco Becht looked a part again in the biggest moment and had the offense, defense, and special teams behind him the whole way through. It was a tough one, but there’s never been a rivalry like that where it wasn’t. This was their first back-to-back win against Iowa since the 2011-2012 season.
10) USF

USF earns My Top 12 spot after back-to-back upsets over ranked opponents. Now, Boise State and Florida were made as a horse head and gator head trophy for USF’s locker room (all made up but could be true). They finish their ranked road journey at Miami. If they somehow pull off that upset, the Bulls will come roaring in the Top 12 national rankings by month’s end.
9) FLORIDA STATE

After that win over Alabama, Florida State followed up by clobbering East Texas A&M. Quarterback Tommy Castellanos continues to prove that he was worth the transfer portal pickup. Will that lead to him being a potential Heisman contender? We shall see once they face stiff ACC competition. Next up is Kent State after a bye.
8) ILLINOIS

The Fighting Illini tussled with Duke for almost four quarters. After trailing 14-13 at half, they dominated the second half with a 31-6 run and shutout Duke in the fourth quarter with 17 unanswered. Defense is credited with turnovers that flipped the field, and that also gave the offense enough momentum to take down coach Manny Diaz’s defense. They have Western Michigan for what should be a cakewalk unless Western Michigan can utilize the MAC power against them.
7) CLEMSON

Clemson looked awful in the first half, and the rain delay didn’t help while sitting on it too. Extra time may have helped them figure out their adjustments. In the second half, they dominated and didn’t look back. Hopefully, it doesn’t happen again because they face Georgia Tech next week. Yeesh!
6) MIAMI

Miami cakewalked to a win. They still have homefield until next month. However, I wouldn’t get too comfortable. Their next two games are against opponents that just faced each other this past weekend around Northeast Florida. One of them in they face happens to have won that matchup that past weekend: #18 USF!
5) PENN STATE

I thought I was joking about Penn State’s lack of effort against my Nevada Wolfpack. Well, the jokes actually on Penn State. They won 34-0, but it looked like there was little to no effort. For a bit, FIU running back Kejon Owens got the best of them. The same was said about Nevada quarterback Chubba Purdy running the ball last week. Should we worry about Penn State? Not yet. Last season, Penn State played their exact second game against Bowling Green and was pushed to the brink of an upset. Still, they gotta play with more effort no matter the opponent.
4) OREGON

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said this about Colorado two seasons ago, “They’re playing for clicks! We’re playing for wins!” Whatever Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said about Oregon’s money and NIL, that pretty much pissed off Duck country and followed their motto again. Boy did the flock come to poke out those ‘Pokes! Hopefully their next two games are about the same before Penn State comes breathing down their beak (neck).
3) TEXAS

Arch Manning and Texas were off to a slow start against San Jose State. The Spartans had opportunities before Arch finally opened up with a huge touchdown pass. After that, they ran away with it. There are more games ahead for Arch to improve. Their big test will be at Florida starting next month.
2) LSU

It wasn’t a perfect game for Garrett Nussmeier and the offense, but they did enough to win. Garrett was ebb-and-flow most of the night and it answered my question why LSU struggled against Louisiana Tech. It’s not all him at least but consistency is needed. Defense played about as well as they did, and they will be important moving forward as long as everyone stays healthy.
1) OHIO STATE

Ohio State clobbered Grambling. Next up is a motivated Ohio team that defeated West Virginia. Does this do anything for this matchup? Doubtful, but it was a weird Week 2 of college football, so anything can happen.
HONORABLE MENTION
BAYLOR
Baylor knew the Auburn game got away from them last week. What did they do? Respond. Slowly, but surely, they responded. They were down two scores about three times before shoring up and locking down in the fourth quarter and overtime. They played hard against SMU and got the better of them at the end. Does this lead to a big run in the Big 12 soon?
LELAND SMITH
I felt for Leland, I felt for San Jose State fans, and I felt for the people watching and thought the same. We all thought that was a helmet catch. It may be indeed incomplete, but it’s indeed a catch in all of our hearts!🥲
NC STATE/VIRGINIA
What a game. I wasn’t expecting much, but Virginia’s overall improvement changed my tune. Well worth a watch and wished that went into overtime like a few other 9am games. Virginia running back J’Mari Taylor (NC Central transfer) put on a show that game and nearly gave the Cavaliers a big win to ride home with.
