BRACKET AND POWER RANKINGS

Here’s the ranked road teams that fell into their opponents’ trap:

7 ALABAMA LOST TO OKLAHOMA🐘🪤🐴

9 OLE MISS LOST TO FLORIDA 🐿️🪤🐊

15 TEXAS A&M LOST TO AUBURN 🐮🪤🐅

16 COLORADO LOST TO KANSAS 🦬🪤🐦‍⬛

If you understand the emoji’s above (especially the squirrel), I’m proud of you. When you enter November and combine it with the 12-team college football playoff, chaos ensues but five times more. While ranked teams fight for 12 spots, they overlook others fighting for bowl-eligibility, conference title spots, and/or pride on senior nights. That leads to getting blindsided and it could cost you a spot in the conference title game and a playoff spot. There was so much drama happening across the nation, it becomes hard to comprehend all of it.

The biggest one was Alabama’s loss to an Oklahoma squad that had Iittle option on offense, including without five plus starting receivers, a distrustful offensive line and lack of running production. Yet, the team outplayed Alabama thanks to Jackson Arnold, the run game, and the defense’s best performance of the year. I literally cried after Oklahoma upset Alabama because it was such insufferable season in SEC play for me and Oklahoma fans everywhere. It’s a huge deal playing for absolutely nothing (a bowl game doesn’t matter to me), but beating Alabama means so much to where I can finally say that we belong in the SEC. Also, we may have sent Bama packing from a college football playoff opportunity. College football is awesome! 🙏🏾🏈

12) TENNESSEE

Tennessee shuts out UTEP in a warmup/cooldown game. They have an important season finale at Vanderbilt, which could determine their potential playoff spot opportunity.

11) INDIANA

Indiana surged instantly with a stop and a touchdown on their first drive. Then the Buckeyes used Brutus’ head to break the doors off Indiana for the 30th straight time. Indiana was outplayed and had little to no response looking like the same ol’ Indiana per usual. However, don’t give up on the Hoosiers just yet no matter the criticisms of their playoff opportunity because that loss is considered a good loss. Indiana could still play for a Big Ten title game if Ohio State and Penn State lose next week. However, losing to Purdue means their playoff hopes are over.

10) MIAMI

Things got interesting against Wake Forest for three quarters. Wake had chances to take the lead. Miami eventually ran away in the fourth quarter with 22 unanswered points while backup running back Jordan Lyle racked up 100 plus yards for the second time this season in garbage time. They travel to Syracuse for a (may I say this again) Trap Game. If they want to play for their first ACC title ever, they can’t fall into the Orange’s trap.

9) ARIZONA STATE

The game was assumingly over a long time ago, but BYU didn’t surrender like always. Zona State was on their heels down the stretch until a late-game interception and a hail mary stop eked them through. Running back Cam Skattebo should be an NFL prospect for sure because he’s playing like Mike Alstott right now. The Sun Devils are now in contention for the Big 12 title if they win out with some help.

8) BOISE STATE

For the first time this season, Boise was held under 20 points. They struggled at Laramie, Wyoming, one of the more difficult places to play in the country. However, defense and Ashton Jeanty helped the Broncos survive to keep their playoff hopes alive. Heisman hopeful Jeanty has yet to go under 100 rushing yards this season as they close things out against Oregon State on Black Friday.

7) NOTRE DAME

First, Notre Dame sunk Navy over a month ago. Then they followed up by demolishing Army in the trenches. It was the same ol’ story against a military school. Defense took care of business, and offense delivered plenty of punishment to the military academy’s undersized defense. The Irish are the playoff spot cloggers as they travel to Pasadena to hopefully finish off their rival, USC.

6) TEXAS

Like other SEC teams that ran into Kentucky, Texas was challenged a bit, but they didn’t waver. Two quarterbacks had their chances against Texas, but it made no difference when the ‘Horns’ defense placated them. They didn’t look ahead to A&M early and now must prepare for what could be a storybook ending next Saturday at College Station.

5) SMU

The Mustangs staved off the trap at Charlottesville and prevented Virginia from a bowl opportunity. SMU’s playing like the best ACC team as they clinched their spot in the ACC title game. They close out their season against Cal and must continue winning for a potential bye in the playoffs.

4) GEORGIA

Georgia’s defense wasn’t perfect at all against UMass. 21 points is plenty against a team with nothing to play for and that’s not good with Georgia Tech coming up next weekend. They may have peaked over to the Georgia Tech game before realizing they’re playing UMass. Carson Beck played a good game, and Nate Frazier got his huge warmup in preparation for next week. With Alabama and Ole Miss’s loss this past weekend (both teams Georgia lost to), Georgia clinched their spot in the SEC title game. Maybe Georgia purposedly lost to them for content and boost their egos a bit lol

3) PENN STATE

Penn State was in a trap game at Minnesota, but they didn’t fall for it. It wasn’t great and Penn State could’ve lost on multiple occasions, but they clamped down and grinded out in the second half just enough to survive. The Nittany Lions should be guaranteed a playoff spot, but they could qualify for the Big Ten title game if both Ohio State and Indiana lose next week.

2) OHIO STATE

After allowing a touchdown on the first drive of the game, they outplayed Indiana since. This felt like a conservative start for the Buckeyes to feel out Indiana before going supernova. Ohio State’s offense played well, but credit defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and the defense for stifling Indiana. Knowles’ is never mentioned or credited for their yearly improvement, and he deserves so much more. He’ll keep working behind closed doors to silence the critics.
