Here is my first ever official NFL Power Rankings. I will do this weekly, but this list will just be a list going forward. Whether you like it or not, that’s who I have to start things out. I don’t know how I will treat these rankings. It could shift or maybe I’ll rank based on performance per week. I will experiment with this until I find consistency. Hope you all enjoy and have a great day!
10) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

I had the Eagles out for a while, but was convinced enough to put them in. Saquon Barkley wasn’t the reason, Dallas’s questionable 2024 season was. I was bullish on Dallas winning the division all offseason, but now I’m not so sure. I’m aware they added Dalvin Cook, but let’s see if that’s enough to help them battle for the division title. Despite Philly and Dallas going back-and-forth on wins against each other for two seasons, I thought Dallas was still better. Things might change this season, but that’s up to Philly and Barkley to impose their will on them.
9) TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans returns, and the offense adds speed in the backfield in rookie Bucky Irving. I think their defense will be fine as long as they stay healthy. They have some competition in the NFC South, including Carolina believe it or not. Tampa’s progression comes down to how the offense takes care of the ball and how they fair without offensive coordinator Dave Canales (Carolina Panther head coach).
8) ATLANTA FALCONS

They built their defense through the draft, free agency, and trades. They have the offense to go with an experienced quarterback and a talented rookie quarterback. As good as both are, Kirk Cousins is coming off an Achilles injury while Michael Penix has a history full of them. The Falcons’ hopes hinge on the health of their quarterback(s) despite the fact they are playing in the NFC South.
7) LOS ANGELES RAMS

The Rams will compete for the playoffs and potentially the NFC West division. The offense should be as good if not better. Matt Stafford is underrated and should play for MVP consideration alongside his various weapons across the backfield and perimeter. The glaring concern is the defensive front. Losing Aaron Donald will affect the front in ways unimaginable…or will it??? Los Angeles not only drafted one, but two Florida State edge rushers in Jared Verse and Braden Fiske to maybe get them “fused” into an Aaron Donald-like disruptor??? Whatever it may be, the front seven will be mightily tested against the NFC West and the rest of the opposing offenses. Did they figure out which linebacker or big nickel will play coverage so Michael Hoecht won’t handle those responsibilities???
6) HOUSTON TEXANS

Unless the Texans last season was a fluke, they should be back. CJ Stroud proved to be the quarterback of the future and one of the faces of the NFL next to Patrick Mahomes. I think the defense will be as good as last year’s and be on the cusp of the Jets, Chiefs, and 49ers level of defense. However, Trevor Lawrence and Anthony Richardson returns from injury and has a score to settle with Houston. Let’s hope Houston’s last season wasn’t a fluke because they must prove they can be in charge of their division despite Lawrence and Richardson’s return.
5) DETROIT LIONS

The Lions were a second half away from appearing in their first Super Bowl in team history. Maybe last season was their only Super Bowl window with how competitively improved the NFC is overall. However, Detroit returns enough players on both sides while adding pieces to improve the defense to contend for it again. Quarterback Jared Goff hopes to repeat his performance with such good weapons across the depth chart. If their defense makes overall improvements, key them in as Super Bowl contenders for sure.
4) GREEN BAY PACKERS

I want to put the Packers above my Niners (I’m not being biased. I swear), but I want to see if Green Bay continues their momentum they started after November. Jordan Love’s been the guy since Aaron Rodgers went to New York, but it took time and patience for Love to put it together. The fact that he didn’t have a consistent #1 receiver, but still attacked the field showed he’s an All-Pro real soon. He also has Josh Jacobs to compliment after losing Aaron Jones to their rival, Vikings. With defensive coordinator Joe Barry out of the way, there’s no reason the Packers defense can’t finally be Top 5-worthy in the NFL. This is the season to prove they are ready for a Super Bowl run.
3) SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

They are here in the Top 3 because they are Super Bowl contenders. While I want to agree with some experts and people that the team has little to no weakness, my gripe is the locker room and coach Kyle Shanahan in big games (especially the SUPER BOWL!!!!). Defense should be fine, but Dre Greenlaw’s return should increase their chances of being a monstrosity again. He was the reason Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were annoyingly pissed off in the first half of the Super Bowl. What I’m concerned about is CMC on the Madden cover. The Madden curse is as real as we breathe. Josh Allen and the team suffered together after a missed field goal that could’ve easily forced overtime. I’m wary that something might happen to CMC knowing how the offense was during the offseason.
2) BALTIMORE RAVENS

They are legitimate AFC title contenders again, and adding Derrick Henry to the backfield solidifies them as one. The receiving corps should prosper no matter who’s in the lineup alongside Zay Jones and a healthy Mark Andrews. The offensive line should prosper as long as Ronnie Stanley stays healthy too. Defense should be elite and special teams should be fine. Now, the concern is the defense’s consistency after Mike Macdonald moved on to Seattle. Can Derrick Henry be THE running back to stay healthy all season, including playoffs? Can a #2 receiver finally emerge??? And can the team commit to their strength for 18-plus games after going away from it in the conference championship against Kansas City???
1) KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Unless hail freezes over, an asteroid collides with Earth, Joe Burrow faces them twice, or Tom Brady returns from retirement and either plays in the AFC again or goes to the Super Bowl with an NFC team, the Chiefs will be AFC title contenders and likely be in the Super Bowl for the third straight season and fourth in five seasons. However, they’re met with challenges in the AFC North, the 49ers, and maybe their own division if they figured something out about their own divisional rival. The only thing that could…or maybe hold them back is their receiving corps. Marquise Brown can’t stay healthy, Rashee Rice got cleared to play and must be the option, and the team hopes Xavier Worthy works out. Otherwise, let’s see who or what opposes Kansas City in the playoffs.
