BRACKET AND POWER RANKINGS

BRONCOS AT SEAHAWKS – 5:15PM PT/8:15PM ET

Russell Wilson returns to Seattle for Monday Night Football.

It’s one thing when you see your quarterback leave your team to play for a different one. It’s another when that team your quarterback plays for returns to his stomping grounds, especially in the first game of the season…on Monday night. It happens when Russell Wilson returns as a Bronco to Seattle to crash the 12th man party.

DENVER BRONCOS PREVIEW

The offseason addition of Russell Wilson was the biggest news that Denver could ever receive. They struggled to find a quarterback for years since Peyton Manning retired. Wilson could be the guy to lead the Broncos back to the playoffs and maybe more. If the offensive line protects Wilson and gives the running back room to run while the receivers step up, Denver will be capable of anything with Wilson in the backfield.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS PREVIEW

It’s probably possible that Seattle doesn’t win this game. It’s very likely that they can’t do much against Denver’s defense. Pete Carroll will try anything to prepare for Wilson’s return and the roster that Denver has in their arsenal. He knows Wilson well enough that breaking down the offensive line and shutting down the run is priority number one. The defense may not be the legion of boom, but he’s coached them enough to try disrupting the opposing offense’s consistencies. Quarterback Geno Smith will lead the offense with Drew Lock as back up, but how much of a difference does that make?

THE MATCHUP

It’s a one-sided affair for Denver and it’s possible that Russell Wilson and company shuts down this crowd. The 12th man fans will be happy to see him again, but they will also root against him since he’s not a Seahawk anymore. Will the emotion of his return affect his play just enough to keep Seattle in the game? It’s possible. The only way Seattle can have any chance to spoil Wilson’s opportunity is pressuring him, but someone must set the tone early. Whether the game is close or not, Denver should win for Wilson’s final farewell to Seattle. Oh, this will be an emotional farewell for sure.
