BRACKET AND POWER RANKINGS

Northwestern was my 2017 and 2018 Big Ten West Underrated Team. They finished with 10 wins in 2017 and won the West division in 2018.

The Underrated Team is about predicting 24 teams from each conference that could potentially improve from last season, finish with five wins or higher and/or finish in better conference standings than what analysts and experts expect, or go as far as winning the division and playing in a conference title game.

Choose 2 teams from each conference and 1 team per division if they have one.

If an Underrated team was chosen in two straight seasons, they’re excluded from the pick. Also, if the chosen team won a division title at least, they’re excluded. An Independent team is a bit complicated since the FBS Independent is technically not a conference, but if they qualify for the playoffs or were picked two straight seasons, they’re excluded.

This season, however, the rules above are exempt due to COVID-19, BUT!!!!! Last season’s playoff teams are still excluded and those teams are: Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

For the first time, At-Large Teams are included as an Independent to make up for one Independent Underrated Team. There will be 3 from any team in any conference or even outside of the FBS as an option (FCS, Division II or lower) that will be picked to make up 4 Independent Underrated Teams.

Also for the first time, I will do the U.T. point system. This will be my prototype and I hope this works better than following teams with the best record. You can see the list below it:

If two underrated teams happen to play each other, one will be highlighted as the chosen team for that week that could potentially win to avoid conflict. If the picked team wins, they receive two points. If not, the opposing team receives one point.

Let’s see what this season brings. Also be sure to check out my podcast. I’ll try to make this a routine along with my website’s postings. Have a great week everyone!
