BRACKET AND POWER RANKINGS

THE SEC MAKES THEIR DEBUT

This will be a long first takeaway, but the SEC made one heck of a debut. Alabama came out strong and their offense played well. The run game will be dangerous and quarterback Mac Jones played well with the options he has. Mike Leach’s SEC debuts in a huge upset win over national champion LSU. Don’t get too hyped over them as it was their first game with LSU technically rebuilding, but expect for an interesting Egg Bowl matchup. Texas A&M escapes upset from Vanderbilt. The three turnovers were the takeaways, and you can’t have that going to Tuscaloosa. Tennessee wins a thriller over South Carolina. The Gamecocks weren’t great, but they had an opportunity to win if it wasn’t for the punt return mishap. Auburn takes care of business over Kentucky. A lot of people, including me, saw this as an upset game for Kentucky. Kentucky had the most yards, but they also had the most turnovers in the game. Georgia overcomes slow start in the 2nd half against Arkansas. I give kudos to quarterback Stetson Bennett for sparking this offense, but USC-transfer J.T. Daniels is cleared to play though… Florida quarterback Kyle Trask scores six touchdowns in win over Ole Miss. The Gators look like a serious SEC contender and could vie for a playoff spot.

IS OKLAHOMA STATE’S DEFENSE LEGIT???

They allowed 20 points through two games for the first time since 2015 when allowing 21 points through two games. Looking at how Texas made a narrow escape against Texas Tech and Oklahoma had a second half blunder in all facets to a depleted Kansas State roster, The Cowboys could take control of the Big 12 conference for the first time since 2011.

TEXAS’S GREAT ESCAPE

Speaking of Texas, they made their great escape in Lubbock in overtime after trailing by 15 points with with three minutes left in the game. Luck was on their side with an onside kick that brought them back into play for overtime. Texas should have no business with the Red Raiders, but miscues were all over the place. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger will have to carry this team forward the rest of the way if they want an appearance in the Big 12 championship game.

OKLAHOMA’S SECOND HALF MELTDOWN

As for Oklahoma, the 2nd half meltdown sparked Kansas State’s historic comeback after trailing by three scores. As an Oklahoma fan, I was so irate at that game. Three scores ahead only to see it fade completely just like their hopes for the playoffs (even though I don’t expect them to be in it). Everything was flowing from Spencer Rattler’s passing game to the defense…playing DEFENSE. Then the wide-open passes came so easily for Kansas State that the receivers could go to the store, grab something to eat real quick, come back and still have time to make the catch before a defensive player finally came to attempt anything. Sooner fans aren’t happy for the finish, and so am I. This is a young Sooners squad, but they must finish games no matter how big of a lead they have. The biggest concern is the offensive line and the run game.

CLEMSON AND ALABAMA ARE PLAYOFF CONTENDERS THROUGH WEEK 4

To sum up this whole season after three weeks, Clemson and Alabama (after one game) look like the best team in college football, Miami and Florida could be contenders in their conference, and UCF may have a case at a playoff spot with the Big 12 conference hurting themselves. Let’s wait and see after the Big Ten and Pac-12 return to football next month and November. It’s still early as we enter October.
